Gaer Fawr, is constructed round an isolated hill S.W. of Trawscoed; The slopes are steep on all sides. On the N. and S. the valleys are 300ft. below the summit. In the strength of its position and de- fences it rivals Pendinas, Aberystwyth, It commands a wide view of the surrounding country. Nearby separated from the main hill by a narrow saddle, is a small knoll on which is a large slab of quartz.
