Festival Of Archaeology, Bronze, Glass and Gold Prehistoric and Roman Treasures from Ceredigion

Festival of Archaeology 2020 and the Royal Commission, 11–19 July

Like so many other festivals this year, the Festival of Archaeology is going online. Running from Saturday 11th until Sunday 19th July, you will find the full programme online.

Watch out for Toby Driver’s free online talk, Bronze, Glass and Gold: Prehistoric and Roman Treasures from Ceredigion. Held in partnership with Ceredigion Museum, this talk will be posted on our Facebook page this Wednesday afternoon at 2pm.

Bronze, Glass and Gold: Prehistoric and Roman Treasures from Ceredigion

This talk will showcase rare and special prehistoric and Roman finds from the county of Ceredigion in Wales, a number of which are of national importance for Wales and the wider UK. From a tiny gold prehistoric ‘sun disc’ found in Cwmystwyth to the Rhos Rydd Late Bronze Age shield from Blaenplwyf, the Penbryn Iron Age spoons from Castell Nadolig used for divining the future, and a unique Roman cut-glass bowl from Abermagwr Roman villa the talk will look at some of the stories of luck and chance behind the archaeological discoveries. Many of the finds mentioned in the talk can be seen in the Bowen Gallery of the Ceredigion Museum, Aberystwyth.

After the talk Toby will be on hand to answer your questions via Facebook.

A Day in Archaeology

Throughout the week the Royal Commission’s archaeologists will be busy taking part in many of the Festival’s online activities. These include Monday’s, A Day in Archaeology activity. Have you ever wondered what archaeologists really do? Find out by checking out our @RC_Survey’s twitter account.

Ask An Archaeologist

Have you got a question for our archaeologists? On Wednesday, the same day as Toby’s talk, our archaeologists will be busy on their @RC_Survey account fielding all your questions. Simply send them a question with the hashtag #AskAnArchaeologist and they will supply an answer!

Throughout the Festival our CHERISH team will also be busy contributing to this year’s theme, Climate and Environment, through their social media accounts. Find out what they are doing @CHERISHProj. There will be something for everyone!
