Annual Report 2007

The Society’s programme for the year began on 28 April with the Annual General Meeting, followed by Dr Iwan Rhys Morris’s lecture in Welsh on the subject ‘Scientific Societies in Victorian Ceredigion’. The venue for the next lecture, on Tuesday evening, 29 May, was the Vestry of Tabernacle Chapel, Aberaeron, when Julian Orbach gave a presentation in English on ‘The Architecture of Ceredigion’. Regrettably, the planned annual excursion, a visit to the National Waterfront Museum at Swansea, had to be cancelled owing to lack of interest by the members. Ken Murphy from ‘Cambrian Archaeology’ was the speaker on 6 October with a lecture on the subject, ‘Recent work on prehistoric and Roman settlements in south Ceredigion’. ‘The Biarritz of Wales? Aberystwyth and the Welsh seaside town in context’ was the intriguing title of Dr Owen Roberts’s lecture in Welsh on 10 November and the last lecture of the year was in English by Simon Timberlake on ‘Ancient mines of Ceredigion’.

Besides the General Meeting in April, the Executive Committee met twice during the year.
