‘Menwod Mentrus Ceredigion’ (Ceredigion’s Notable Women) at the Ceredigion National Eisteddfod 2022: Societies’ Tent 1 at 12.00 o’clock on Friday 5th August
In 2019, when Women’s Archive Wales began to discuss our session for the Ceredigion Eisteddfod, we had some difficulty naming many ‘Notable Women’ to be included. And then the floodgates opened and one name after the other appeared on our list. By 2022, we have recorded the lives of 40 notable women who were born or who lived in the county and contributed to its history. A booklet and presentation about them will feature in our Eisteddfod session.
Of these 40 we have selected five for special attention: Sara Maria Saunders, Cwrt Mawr, Llangeitho: Methodist, evangelist and author (presented by Rosanne Reeves); Kate Davies, Pren-gwyn, Llandysul: local storyteller and poet (Elaine Davies); Mari Ellis, Aberystwyth: churchwomen, author and scholar (Meg Elis); Cassie Davies, Blaencaron: educator and nationalist (Mari Elin Jones) and Marie James, Llangeitho: popular broadcaster and local benefactress (Elin Morse). This is an eclectic and very interesting mix.
